The group's activities are principally directed at the enlargement and spread of the philatelic knowledge concerning these areas of collecting.
The meetings, the magazine, and the mutual personal contacts play an important role in this process.

The members of "Het Baltische Gebied" are engaged in a wide range of collecting fields. Most members direct their attention to the stamps, cancels, or the postal history of one or more of the independent countries Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania of the 1918-1940 period.
The level of collecting ranges from "starter" to advancedly specialized, in which the one thing often leads to the other.
Initially many collectors were attracted to the Baltic countries because it was a so-called "closed" field of collecting without new issues.
This last statement is not true anymore, and while collecting, "closed" appeared a quite relative notion, as the German and Russian periods before 1918 and after 1940 are very interesting in a postal history sense.
Activities
In order to attain the objectives, enlargement and spread of philatelic knowledge, the club develops a number of activities:
- Twice yearly a meeting in Geldermalsen (the Netherlands), usually in April and October. Ever since the first meeting in 1982 a fixed, generally appreciated formula has been followed. After a short domestic part a philatelic contribution will follow, usually provided for by one of our members. The joint lunch has become a good tradition, and after its close those present completely surrender to the art of philately.
- Also twice a year, in June/July and December/January, our magazine Het Baltische Gebied (The Baltic Area) is published.
- The club builds up its own library and exchanges magazines with various clubs abroad. These publications are at our members' disposal.
Membership
The club does not ballot new members, but we appreciate to make their acquaintances at one of our meetings.
The membership dues are EURO 20.- a year.
